I’m sure many of you’ve heard the news about the United States being  covered in huge piles of snow!

Who wouldn’t want to stay warm in weather like this?

Especially when the wind chill is -35 degrees below zero!!

But, I’m not writing to talk about my frustrations with cold weather & snow.

I’m addressing some frustrations that many of you have who have been on my email list for years.

It has been a long time since I sent you any update about the activities at Crack The Sudoku Code.com

I know that I’ve promised some of you periodic updates on sudoku solving tips and reports on various research I was conducting about sudoku difficulty levels.

Instead, you’ve received a few emails about topics not even related to sudoku puzzle solving!

With that being said, I wanted to write this email to apologize for my failure to provide you with the latest,
cutting edge news about sudoku and new solving strategies.

It is totally my fault and I regret not giving you the information you requested.

Since it’s the end of the year, and I’m in the Christmas Spirit, I am correcting every wrong deed & failed commitment before 2009 begins.

I’ve decided to provide something exciting & free for all of my subscribers.

I am going to cut through all of the nonsense and get straight to the point.

However, before I do, I have to warn you that this is bitter-sweet news.

So please pay close attention to what I’m about to share & read carefully!

What I have decided to propose will only be available for a select group of people, for only a short period of time.

Starting in 2009, I will be offering weekly step by step video training workshops on how to solve highly difficult sudoku puzzles with detailed explanations of complicated techniques and scheduled assignments.

I will slowly walk you through solving evil to diabolical puzzles in minutes and send you similar puzzles for the purpose of practicing the new techniques every week.

The sad news is that it is only available for past & present customers of our Crack The Sudoku Code Home Study Course.

I will be limiting this special weekly training to only our 2008 & earlier customers.

The reason for this is that I’m changing the system I use to process payments and anyone who purchased through the old system were automatically placed in a special mailing list.

I will be using that same mailing list to send out the weekly training videos.

For some odd reason, the new platform does not carry this capability, and I would have to add each customer to the mailing list manually.

I don’t plan on doing that, since it will take too much of my time.

So, if you would like to join us in this special training, I am encouraging you to become a customer while you still have time!

The year is about to come to an end and I will not be offering this special deal and training to future customers in 2009.

I know that sounds unfair, but I just won’t have the system in place to do it next year.

The origins of Sudoku can be traced back to 1979, when it’s first puzzle was created by a retired architect named Howard Garns. During this time, the puzzle was only termed as a “number placement” game, and it was inspired by the latin square invention of Leonhard Euler, but with the unit restrictions and partially filled squares. The puzzle was first published by Dell Magazines in their Dell Pencil Puzzles and Word Games.

It was not until 1984, that the puzzle game acquired its popularity in Japan. In April of 1984 the puzzle game was introduced by Nikoli in their monthly periodical Nikolist. It was during this time that the puzzle was called “Suuji wa dokushin ni kagiru” which means “the number must be single” or in simpler terms, ” the number must occur only once”. This name was given by President Kaji Maki, who was the president of Nikoli, and it wasn’t until a later date that he abbreviated the name to “SudoKu”. In 1986, Nikoli presented two more innovations to the puzzle that greatly contributed to its global popularity. The first addition was the limitation of no more than 32 givens for a Sudoku and the second innovation was the creation of “symmetrical” puzzles, which meant that all the givens were distributed in rotationally symmetrical cells. Since then, Sudoku has grown in popularity across Japan and it is now being published in other periodicals, like Asahi Shimbun. Unto this very day, Nikoli still holds the trademark for the term “sudoku” in Japan and other publications are forced to use alternate terms for this number puzzle.

It’s a clear sign and indicator that we are becoming mad and insanely in love with sudoku when we start organizing giant sudoku puzzle competitions on ice. Earlier this week, in the Big Apple, sudoku lovers had a chance to play Snowdoku in order to win a grand prize ski trip to Aspen, Colorado. The competition was organized by The Chrysler Group as a way to promote their newly refined 2007 Chrysler Aspen SUV. The competitors had to partner with individuals to form a team, carry a giant six foot pencil to mark solutions on a large 30 foot X 30 foot sudoku grid made up of 36,000 lbs of snow and ice.
The winners of the Snowdoku competition were a team of five women from the University Of Pennsylvania swim team. They ended up solving the giant sudoku puzzle in 4 minutes and 26 seconds.
